Become a Guardian of Liberty!

The ACLU of South Carolina depends largely on the generosity of its members for its annual budget.  Neither the ACLU of South Carolina nor its tax-exempt Foundation accept government funding.

You can help defend the traditional American values ensconced in the Constitution and Bill of Rights by supporting the work of the American Civil Liberties Union through any of the following programs:

Card Carrying Member

Membership Card - South CarolinaIn South Carolina there are over 5,000 individuals who actively pledge their support for civil liberties as card carrying members of the ACLU.  We receive and appreciate all levels and varieties of support from our members -- including yearly membership renewals, with contributions to the ACLU of South Carolina, additional tax-deductible contributions to the ACLU of South Carolina Foundation, and volunteer work for local chapter and statewide events.  Members receive a quarterly newsletter, invitations to all state and chapter events, and the opportunity to elect individuals to the state Board of Directors.

Donor

Become a Guardian of Liberty:   Freedom isn't free.  Many ACLU members, recognizing the strength of the attack by anti-civil libertarian forces, have chosen to become Guardians of Liberty by making monthly gifts to the ACLU to help sustain our work.  The monthly gifts they provide, regardless of the amount, are invaluable as the ACLU struggles to meet the costs of increased litigation, of expanded grassroots mobilization, and of launching special communications campaigns to alert all citizens to the growing threats posed by the political agenda of those who, in pursuit of their various social objectives, would subvert or ignore constitutional guarantees of individual liberty.

As a Guardian of Liberty, you will help make sure that no challenge to any of our rights goes unanswered.  If you're interested in becoming a Guardian of Liberty, please contact us via e-mail at support@aclusc.org or via telephone at (803) 799-5151.

Support the ACLU of South Carolina Foundation:  Thomas Jefferson admonished us that, "Eternal vigilance is the price of Liberty."  Defending your civil liberties from the forces of majoritarian tyranny on a daily basis has taught us that eternal fundraising is the price of eternal vigilance.   Many ACLU members also give generously beyond their annual dues, through tax-deductible gifts to the ACLU of South Carolina Foundation's litigation and public education programs, in addition to special gifts that support our lobbying efforts.  This support is indispensable in ensuring that the ACLU's core programs and special projects are fully funded.

For more information about how you can support the ACLUSC Foundation through tax-deductible contributions, please contact us via e-mail support@aclusc.org or via telephone at (803) 799-5151.

Join The DeSilver Society:   The ACLU has established The DeSilver Society to recognize this special group of loyal supporters.  Their dedicated foresight and philanthropy, in the form of bequests and giving plans that provide income to donors or their beneficiaries during their lives, provide precious revenue to the ACLU after their lifetimes.  Throughout the ACLU's history, thousands of individuals have chosen to act as stewards of our constitutional heritage for future generations.

If you're interested in more information about how to join The DeSilver Society, please contact us via e-mail at support@aclusc.org or by telephone at (803) 799-5151.

Volunteer

If you have a few hours of your time that you would like to invest in the struggle to preserve your civil liberties, the ACLU can use your services right here in South Carolina.  We need volunteers, in Columbia, to help our professional staff keep the state Affiliate Office in order.  If you can invest a few hours at a time, on a monthly or bimonthly basis, you can volunteer to serve on the Task Force of one of the standing committees of our affiliate Board of Directors.  If you live within an area covered by one of our local chapters, you can become active by participating in the activities of a local chapter.

Office work:   To volunteer for work in our affiliate office, please contact Marshall Derks, Executive Assistant.

Field Work:   To volunteer for work on an affiliate Task Force, or to locate your local Chapter leadership, please contact Marshall Derks, Executive Assistant.
