This bill would conceal the identities of all people or entities involved in the planning or execution of a death sentence.
We oppose this bill because:
- Its main purpose is to shield the identities of companies who manufacture and sell the drugs administered during death by lethal injection.
- Shielding the identites of drug makers reduces accountability to the public in the state's procurement and administration of drugs which often carry an intolerably high risk of extreme pain and torture.
The death penalty in America is a broken process from start to finish. Death sentences are predicted not by the heinousness of the crime but by the poor quality of the defense lawyers, the race of the accused or the victim, and the county and state in which the crime occurred. We oppose protecting entities that stand to profit from the inhumanity of capital punishment.
