It seems strange that in 2019, citizens that are facing jail time in S. C. summary courts aren't always told they have a right to an attorney, and indigent defendents aren't told they have the right to court-appointed counsel.  This results in thousands of people being locked up simply because they don't know the law.  We support legislation that makes it mandatory to inform anyone facing incarceration that they have a right to counsel or to court-appointed counsel.
