COLUMBIA, S.C. — Karen Culbreath executive director of the ACLU of South Carolina issued the following statement in response to the shooting massacre in Uvalde, Texas:

“We at ACLU of South Carolina join in solidarity and mourning with the people of Uvalde and communities across the country who have experienced the horror of gun violence and the unspeakable trauma and grief that will never go away. We also know we must all do more to prevent this devastation from happening again–and again. We must join together and elect leaders who will commit to doing whatever it takes to ensure our children, teachers, friends, family, pastors and neighbors can live, work and go to school without fear of becoming a victim.

This Memorial Day weekend, as we remember those who gave their lives for our country, let us truly honor their service and sacrifice by working to make sure our communities are safer for all of us.”
