Reducing Medical Privacy for Minors (S. 710)

  • Status: Active
  • Position: Oppose
  • Bill Number: S. 710
  • Session: 126th General Assembly (2025-2026)
  • Latest Update: December 10, 2025
"We oppose S. 710"

This bill would require a parent or legal guardian of a minor under the age of 16 to provide consent before a medical professional prescribes medication to the minor. Additionally, this bill would allow the parent or legal guardian to review the minor’s prescription records even if the prescription is solely in the minor’s name.

We oppose this bill because: This bill could lead to violation of privacy for minors in South Carolina. This bill has the potential to hinder minors’ reproductive health and freedom by making it harder for teenagers to access birth control.
