Surveillance of Special Education (H. 4725)

  • Status: Active
  • Position: Oppose
  • Bill Number: H. 4725
  • Session: 126th General Assembly (2025-2026)
  • Latest Update: January 13, 2026
We oppose H. 4725

This bill would require public schools to record audio and video of all special education classroom instruction. These recordings would be available to the general public under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.

We oppose this bill because: Teachers, students, and students’ families have a reasonable expectation of privacy in classrooms. The state should not single out one vulnerable group of students and one subset of teachers for constant surveillance.
