The following can be attributed to Shaundra Scott, Esq., Executive Director of the ACLU of South Carolina:

"On September 24, 2018, the ACLU of SC, the SC Progressive Network and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law wrote a letter to the South Carolina Election Commission asking for an extension of the voter registration deadline as a result of the disruption of Hurricane Florence.  Today, the Attorney General of the South Carolina, Alan Wilson, recognized the legitimacy of the concerns raised in our letter.  His office sued the South Carolina Election Commission in the Court of Common Pleas in Richland County to get a judicial order extending the state-wide deadline to register from October 7th until October 17th.

We applaud AG Wilson’s decision to act promptly to protect the rights of all South Carolina citizens to vote."
