Defunding Family Planning Services (H. 4691)

  • Status: Active
  • Position: Oppose
  • Bill Number: H. 4691
  • Session: 126th General Assembly (2025-2026)
  • Latest Update: January 13, 2026
We oppose H. 4691

This bill would block any clinic that provides abortions from providing family planning services with funding from the South Carolina Medicaid program.

We oppose this bill because: This bill would make it more difficult for people to obtain abortions and other forms of reproductive healthcare. Clinics that provide abortions also provide other services including birth control, pregnancy tests, and screening for sexually transmitted infections. Cutting off a source of funding to these clinics will harm all people who depend on their services, making safe reproductive care even harder to access in a state with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in America.
