At the ACLU of SC, we're making sure election commissions are following policies that protect the voting rights and the freedom of speech of all South Carolinians.

South Carolina has taken center stage in the fight to protect our constitutional right to access abortion. While state senators debated a near total ban on abortion, our friends at  Planned Parentood South Atlantic argued before the South Carolina Supreme Court to protect our rights.

Last month, I started as the new executive director at the ACLU of South Carolina – a dream opportunity for me. I felt called to this work and this organization at this moment as our democracy is threatened like never before.

“Banned Books Week” celebrates the freedom to read and spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools.

If Roe v Wade (Roe) is overturned, South Carolina lawmakers will attempt to further prohibit or severely restrict abortion. Laws that prevent people from making their own decisions about whether to continue a pregnancy or have an abortion amount to forced pregnancy.

As we celebrate Pride Month, South Carolina state lawmakers are continuing their attacks on the rights of LGBTQ+ South Carolinians by attempting to hide dangerous and discriminatory proposals in the state budget, which is currently being determined by state lawmakers.

The South Carolina primary elections are here! Early voting started on Tuesday and continues to Friday, June 10 at 5 p.m. Election Day is Tuesday, June 14.
