Schools would be required to display the Ten Commandments, starting with “I AM the Lord thy God,” in a prominent place in every classroom. This is a crystal-clear example of establishment of religion.

Healthy Mother and Healthy Newborn Ombudsman (S. 717)

This bill would create the Healthy Mother and Healthy Newborn Ombudsman Office within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS). The office would be led by an ombudsman appointed by the Director of DHHS. Like several anti-abortion bills introduced this session, S. 717 would insert the phrase “preborn human” into state law.

Protections While in Police Custody (S. 719)

This bill would require law enforcement officers to activate audio and video recording while detaining people, regardless of whether the person is under arrest or not. The officer would also be required to inform the detained person that they are being detained, the reason they are being detained, and when they are free to leave. If the officer does not provide the detained person with the previously stated information, any statements the officer obtains would be inadmissible in court.
