This bill would expand the definition of “wrongful death” to include abortion. This bill states that a wrongful death lawsuit could be brought by the mother, father, or both mother and father of an embryo or fetus.

This bill would create the Healthy Mother and Healthy Newborn Ombudsman Office within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS). The office would be led by an ombudsman appointed by the Director of DHHS. Like several anti-abortion bills introduced this session, S. 717 would insert the phrase “preborn human” into state law.

This bill would exempt baby formula, baby food, and baby clothes for infants and children under thirty-six months from sales tax.

This bill would criminalize the distribution, possession, and use of the drugs mifepristone and misoprostol, which are used for medication abortion, managing miscarriages, treating pregnancy complications, and a variety of other uses. Under this bill, the state would imprison people up to five years for possessing these essential medications without a prescription, or for using them to obtain an abortion.

This bill would require a parent or legal guardian of a minor under the age of 16 to provide consent before a medical professional prescribes medication to the minor. Additionally, this bill would allow the parent or legal guardian to review the minor’s prescription records even if the prescription is solely in the minor’s name.
